The Slademan Stone Company of Sla'hake has been a family business for a long time; since the Cataclysm, some say.
The Arkengarth mountains had been the source of may things in the past; metals including the precious ones, flints and very rarely gems. The company started when the mines in the nearby hills started to run dry and had to dig through a lot of rock to find anything. There were a number of 'dry' mines which were acquired for very little and a lot of excavated rock just lying around.
